At LSTC, we have the pleasure of treating and preventing injuries in many athletes, including basketball athletes. Although many injuries are possible when competing, those listed above, are the most common injuries we see.
Our therapist are trained and experienced in teaching you how to prevent these types of injuries, as well as trained in rehabbing them and returning athletes to their optimal level of function. These injuries and impairments can be addressed by physical therapy, in a safe and fun environment. If you experience a sports related injury, our therapists will assess any areas of impairment or deficiency, and address them specific to the sport, in this case basketball.
Some ways to prevent these common basketball injuries:
- Improve ankle stability and balance
- Improve proprioception (awareness of movement and position of your body)
- Increase quad and glute strength
- Improve core strength and stability
- Increase shoulder stability
When these areas are addressed in a functional, systematic approach, the risk of the common injuries we see in basketball athletes greatly diminishes. Improving these athletes’ functional ability will also aid in preventing more significant and time consuming injuries such as, ACL tears, achilles ruptures, and labral tears. It is greatly beneficial to address these impairments before these injuries occur
