Neck Problem From a Nerve Problem

A common problem we see in our clinic is people experiencing neck pain. Neck pain can be caused from many different things and can vary in how severe the pain is. One common neck problem we see is called cervical radiculopathy. Cervical radiculopathy is a fancy way of saying your neck pain is caused by a nerve problem.  In many cases, people with this condition will feel the effects of the damaged or pinched nerve in other parts of their body.

How Does Cervical Radiculopathy Happen?

  • Joint and/or bone degeneration
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Injuries

What Are The Symptoms?

  • Numbness/tingling/pain that radiates down the neck into the shoulder/arm/hand/fingers
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Loss of strength in the neck and arm/hand/fingers

Depending on what nerve is being pinched or damaged, you may feel these symptoms in different parts of your shoulder, arm, hand and/or fingers.

Can PT Help?

Yes, it can help! A PT can help identify which nerve is being impacted so we can focus on where the damage is occurring. We use hands on techniques to create space in the joints to take the pressure off of the nerves as well as create a stretching and strengthening routine to maintain the joint space so that you no longer feel radiating pain or numbness and tingling so you can return to your daily activities without pain or problems!
