What frozen shoulder is, depends on what type of frozen shoulder you have.
Primary
Primary frozen shoulder is an idiopahtic (no clear cause) condition. It has a gradual onset and can take over a year to fully resolve.
Physical therapy can help with this form, but in general, it has to run its course.
Primary is:
- Less common.
- More common in Women.
- Often associated with underlying conditions such as diabetes and thyroid disease.
Secondary
Secondary frozen shoulder is typically the result of a shoulder trauma, such as a rotator cuff injury, fracture, prolonged immobilization, etc.
Physical therapy is very effective for secondary frozen shoulder. We see much better and quicker results with this. After being evaluated by our physical therapist, they will create a custom plan of care will be created that focuses on the range of motion you are lacking.
