Do you have any summer vacations planned? Do they involve long car or plane rides? This is something that may have been planned for months and is supposed to be the highlight of the year, but there is one problem; you are having pain! We want to make sure that you get to your final destination without any nagging aches and pains, so that you can enjoy your vacation completely. Whether you are taking a plane or driving in a car there are some things to consider and be aware to make traveling as painless as possible. Sitting for long periods of time in cramped seating can often be the reason for nagging aches and pains. Here are some things to include in your travel checklist, to ensure your vacation is pain free!
Car travel checklist
- Check seat height to make sure all instruments are at eye level
- Slightly recline seat to about 100 degrees
- Adjust seat depth so that you can reach the pedals without your back leaving the seat
- Adjust steering wheel to be about 10 inches from your chest
- Adjust rear view and side mirrors to decrease the amount you need to turn your head
- Often times a lumbar support will help maintain good posture
- Take a 5-10 minute rest breaks every 2 hours to stretch your legs out
Plane Travel Checklist
- Its harder to adjust seat in an airplane but a pillow to adjust seat height and bath towel for a lumbar roll go a long way
- A small folding stool may help to maintain proper knee and hip height as well
- Tips for carrying heavy luggage
- If possible wheel luggage
- Lift with your legs to protect your back
- Do not twist while holding luggage
- Wear backpacks with both straps and snug against your back
- If you are carrying a purse or duffel bag make sure to switch arms frequently
