Are you suffering with shoulder pain, stiffness, or decreased function? Shoulder pain can develop for a number of reasons including:
- traumatic injury
- overuse
- postural deficits
- weakness
If left untreated, intermittent or nagging shoulder pain can develop into a significant condition which can limit your ability to participate in activities of daily living (ADLs), work duties, leisure activities, or sports.
This is where physical therapy can help. As a direct access facility, you can be seen at Loudoun Sports Therapy Center with or without a physician referral. Here, our doctors of physical therapy (DPTs) will perform a thorough evaluation of your shoulder and surrounding areas to diagnose your condition and determine a plan of care to help you achieve your goals.
Once you have completed your initial evaluation, we will guide you through a treatment plan with focus on your specific goals and tailored to meet your needs.
A typical plan of care for shoulder pain may include:
- An active or passive warm-up to loosen your shoulder and surrounding muscles and allow for improved stretching and soft tissue mobility
- Exercises to improve your shoulder range of motion and flexibility to muscles at the front of the chest (pectoral muscles) and muscles at the neck, as well as the shoulder joint capsule
- Hands-on approach with manual therapy techniques to passively stretch your joint, mobilize your shoulder, and massage muscles that may be contributing to your shoulder pain
- Specific exercises for strength, endurance, and functional activities, including sports-specific training
- A home exercise program which is updated throughout your course of PT treatment to ensure a quicker recovery and prepare you to continue with independent exercise once you have completed your in-clinic treatments
By completing your full course of therapy for shoulder pain, we can help you return to pain-free activities and prevent future injuries! Give us a call today at 703-450-4300 to schedule your initial evaluation.
