We sit for a good majority of our day whether it is at work, at home, or at school. It is important to ensure that you are sitting with good posture so that you can prevent any injuries from forming in the future.
When sitting, here are some tips to remember:
- Find a chair that is comfortable and can support your back.
- Sit so that both of your feet touch the floor, and your ankles are not behind your knees or legs crossed.
- Keep your elbows close to your body and if sitting at a desk have your forearms parallel to the floor.
- Keep your trunk tall and avoid leaning forward or slouching down.
- If sitting at a desk, make sure the height of your desk is adjusted so that your shoulders can be relaxed, not rounded forward and not shrugged up to your ears.
- Make sure your head is in a neutral position and not tilted up or down while sitting.
If you get pain while sitting, Physical Therapy can help! At LSTC, we can help you minimize your pain, assess your posture and chair/desk setup, and help to strengthen your postural muscles to allow you to sit throughout the day without any problems.
