As the weather starts to warm up here in NOVA we are all itching to get back outside and back to the activities we enjoyed prior to the cold weather. When we are getting moving this Spring, we need to make sure we are taking care of our bodies.
As we get moving after being very inactive during the winter months. This can set us up for new aches and pains or even an injury to start off the season. The higher level of inactivity in the winter, causes the muscles to weaken. additionally, the same endurance that you had prior to winter is no longer there. There are a couple of things that you can do to try and avoid any major issues from occurring and limiting you in your activities
Avoiding Injuries
The main thing that you can do is to continue being active during the winter months. Whether it is; joining the gym or getting a personal trainer, picking up a new hobby, or transitioning into a different winter based activity to stay active. This allows for the muscles to stay prepped and ready for the spring season.
Start Slow
If you do choose a more sedentary lifestyle for the winter time it is even more important that you don’t immediately jump back into your spring activities at full capacity. This puts our bodies more at risk for injury because we are not prepped for that level of activity. You should ease yourself back into your spring activities and work yourself up steadily into your prior level of activity to reduce the chance of experiencing an injury.
