An impending sports season can be daunting when you feel like you’re not ready. But, there are many steps you can take to make sure your mind and body are prepared! Read below to see what actions you can take to make sure you are ready to perform at your best this season! This isn’t a comprehensive list, but a good start to get you going!
Condition!
To perform at it’s best, your body needs to be adapted to its demands. Ideally, you should be conditioning your body year round, with breaks built in in between.
Be sports specific: general strength and cardio training is important, but you should also incorporate activities/exercises that directly correlate to your sport. You should also keep in mind whether your sport/position is more strength or cardio dominant to determine your conditioning needs.
Nutrition!
Without proper fuel, your body won’t have the energy it needs to meet its demands.
You should focus on having a well rounded diet with enough calories to sustain you throughout your day.
Sports physical!
- Everyone planning on playing a sport should get a sports physical at their primary care physician each year.
- A physical is an overall screening and testing of your mind/body to ensure that you are ready to participate and are generally healthy.
- This is an amazing preventative tool everyone should take advantage of!
