After you have any type of surgery, chances are you will be referred to physical therapy for post-op treatment to restore your range of motion, strength and get back to the things you love!
Depending on your age, surgery and many other factors your physical therapy may be different. Meaning, you may need to spend a night or two in the hospital after surgery so the staff can keep an eye on you if there are possibilities of complications or infection. You may also need to spend some time in an inpatient rehabilitation center if it is not appropriate to go home right away because you are older and live alone with no caregiver. Although there are many options post-op, most people will do just fine and be able to go home after surgery and start up outpatient Physical Therapy in no time!
The big goals of post-op rehab are:

- Explaining more about your surgery
- Explaining signs of infection to watch out for
- How to properly use your assistive devices (if you have one)
- How long recovery may last
- How to reach your goals
- Improving ROM
- Improving balance
- Increasing your strength to get you back to normal life

- Taking measurements to keep track of your progress
