The majority of low back pain is caused by repeated trauma or repeated movements, decreased flexibility, poor core strength or general muscle weakness. The single most common cause of lower back pain is a torn or pulled muscle and/or ligament. The lumbar spine, or low back, is a remarkably well-engineered structure of interconnecting bones, joints, nerves, ligaments, and muscles all working together to provide support, strength, and flexibility. However, this complex structure also leaves the low back susceptible to injury and pain.
Common causes of sprain and strain include:
- Lifting a heavy object, or twisting the spine while lifting
- Sudden movements that place too much stress on the low back, such as a fall
- Poor posture over time
- Sports injuries, especially in sports that involve twisting or large forces of impact
Common Injuries and their symptoms:
- Lumbar Herniated Disc
- The jelly-like center of a lumbar disc can break through the tough outer layer and irritate a nearby nerve root.
Utilizing Dumbbells can Cause a Bicep Strain
With everyone doing at home workouts it’s important to be careful especially if you are just starting to do this for the first time. The bicep is that muscle that people are always striving to make big in the upper arm.
A common issue that occurs when utilizing dumbbells is a bicep strain.
The bicep’s job is to bend the elbow when we are speaking in this sense.
Tried and True Solution to Back Issues

Microscopic tears and inflammation if allowed to occur repetitively can result in the potential for long term problems in the future.

Muscle tightness doesn’t just hinder good form in our daily activities, but it can also lead to pain and injuries in different parts of the body.

Get warm for the colder season!
In the warmer months, it easier for our bodies to warm up to the activities and stresses we place on them. However, as a therapist, I do begin to see more patients, especially back related injuries in the latter half the year. Why is that?
One thing that doesn’t tend to like to change is our activity level.
We all have our hobbies and passions that we would pursue 24/7 if we had the time and energy.
